BP5_2010052_Web2.0Tool#2

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

Animoto.com is a very cool web tool that I have recently discovered in my research. It is an online automated video presentation maker. This web 2.0 tool is a great way for students to create video presentations, and slide shows for visual implementation in projects and classes.
In many cases compiling a video presentation or slide show for classes is very time consuming. Animoto allows student upload their information, such as graphics, pictures and or video clips and animoto analyzes the information and processes it into a online video presentation with exciting transitions and visual effects.
With Animoto a person can also add preloaded music or their own music from their personal libraries to add a flare to their presentation.
What I like about this tool is that it is a time saving online web 2.0 tool. All the time it takes to create visually appealing presentations is cut in half with this tool. The site creates the order, and edits it for the user. It saves the presentation so that the user can add, subtract, and make other changes that they would like. This gives way to the flow of creativity.
There are a few drawbacks with animoto though. One drawback is that the free registration only comes with thirty second presentations that have limited designs and the customization is restricted.
Other than the drawbacks as a web 2.0 tool it has many of the familiar features that most of them carry such as sharing, embedding, commenting, and connecting.
Without paying for a full subscription you can not get the full experience of the site, but for the free version you can still expect to be wowed.

Seeing your work from the past couple of months Dan, I really think you have a thing for finding the right tools that benefit you the most. I'm always interested to see your work and read about it because you always add a form of your personality to the presentation. Animoto seems like a great site. I actually checked out the site and signed up. I love turning pictures into slide shows so everyone can enjoy them with just a click of a button rather than paying to get them processed and then only to find fingerprints and smudge marks all over them after people look at them. I also agree with you when you say this is great to utilize with students. This is something I can use with my group. I love learning about new tools that I can utilize with my students. We always take pictures of our bulletin boards, school events, things going on in class, field trips, and so much more. This would be nice to use for scrap-booking my students' memories. What I also like about this site is that you can add backgrounds to your clips. Too bad it costs 30 dollars a year to have more than 30 sec because that would be neat if all students could access the whole package. I think it would be a nice way to present their presentations as well. I'm thinking about maybe using pictures of different things such as different foods or types of weather and creating a slideshow for my students, but turning it into a game where they have to shout out what they think it is when it appears on screen. They love seeing things on screen especially with effects. I also think they'll enjoy seeing their work displayed on screen. You should check out Mollie's web 2.0 tool from last week. She did hers on Wordpress and there you can also create something along the lines of a scrap-book, but you also have access to blogging. I haven't experimented much with it, but if you're interested check it out. Great post Dan!

Dan, this definitely looks like tool that students would enjoy using in the classroom. I could see this being used for classs presentations and reports. This would fall into something similiar that students do now with their cell phones and on social networks. Of course, you would need to purchase the full version. Great find!
